The lessons we teach through sports do not stop with our kids. Kids in the Game as a company embodies those lessons everyday. This includes the notion that teamwork, collaboration, and some outside the box thinking is the key to success. In 2017, the leadership team of Kids in the Game did just that and founded a public charity, The Kids in the Game Foundation. After years of providing sports programs for NYC youth, Kids in the Game’s leadership recognized the inequality in opportunity kids have growing up in New York City.
Our Foundation was formed to address this issue and bring equal opportunity to all kids in New York City. While the two entities are separate businesses, they have been working together as a team to reach all kids and pass along the lessons learned through sport. Since 2017, our foundation has provided over 100 scholarships for kids to participate in summer camp, sports and after-school programs, in addition to having created distinctly unique programming that has enhanced our organization as a whole.
Since receiving funding in 2018 from the Heisman Trophy Trust through the New York Community Trust, we have added academic and life skills support to our competitive basketball program, KING Hoops. Using sport as the ‘hook’ we have engaged our student-athletes in a new way, strengthening both peer and mentor relationships along the way. Our dedicated volunteer corp helps lead weekly tutoring sessions re-learning geometry, remembering the joys of a 5 paragraph essay and in turn giving our players fresh perspectives from positive adult figures.
Through Laureus Sport for Good’s Innovation Grant Kids in the Game launched the first ever middle school esports league in the Spring of 2019 in partnership with NYXL. This program was the first of its kind by forming middle school teams to compete against one another in similar fashion of any other school sponsored sport. The kids not only receive coaching in the esports games like NBA 2K and FIFA, but then transfer the skills in the video game onto the court and field. Each practice features a physically active component that gets the kids moving and connects them to the video games in a new and unique way. Our intent is that students that may have never had the confidence to play traditional sports will have a new outlet to try it through this hybrid program model. Both this league model and virtual offerings are now available year around through various Kids in the Game programs.
The Kids in the Game Foundation was founded on the idea of bridging the opportunity gap in New York City. We started our first formal scholarship program in 2017, allowing kids and families to join programs they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. Since our first scholarship awards, we have added two additional scholarship programs and continue to increase our scholarship awards year over year.
Our general scholarship fund is funded by our generous donors that believe in the power of sport. We offer scholarships for summer camp, sports teams and various after-school programs. As the fund continues to grow, we look forward to continuing to give back to our underserved communities and provide opportunities to grow and learn through sport and creative play.

Thanks to the generous donation from The Kevin Durant Charity Foundation and Degree we are launching a new scholarship fund that will focus on providing assistance to single mothers and their families in New York City. We don’t believe that a single parent should have to choose between providing basic necessities for their children and providing opportunities for sport and enrichment activities. This fund will eliminate that choice by providing funds to support their child’s participation in after-school, sport and summer programs. Additional resources such as nutrition and financial literacy will also be made available to 'The Real MVP Fund' awardees. To be notified when the scholarship opens or to learn more:
For the past three years our foundation has offered academic and life skill support to our KING Hoops players. By providing these services, we recognize that support should not stop when high school ends. The post high school education scholarship fund will be established to support graduating student-athletes that have participated in any Kids in the Game program throughout their elementary or secondary educations. The award will support college, vocational, and/or trade school further education opportunities. To be notified when the scholarship opens or to learn more:
