Life at Kids in the Game

At Kids in the Game, you’re part of a team working toward a shared mission: to provide positive experiences and opportunities through sports and creative play. Whether you’re working behind the scenes in the office, coaching in schools, or running summer camp programs, every role contributes to creating communities where kids feel included, confident, and inspired.

Guided by our core values—Inclusive, Committed, Positive, Empathetic, and Ambitious—we show up every day to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

Office Team

Our office team is the engine that keeps Kids in the Game moving forward. Made up of 20+ professionals in Operations, People & Culture, Finance, Marketing & Development, and Program Management, this team works behind the scenes to make sure every program runs smoothly and continues to grow.

From hiring and training new coaches to designing innovative curricula, coordinating logistics, connecting with families, building partnerships, and analyzing data, the office team is at the center of it all. United by a shared passion for sports and youth programming, this team thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and a “can-do” mentality. For those pursuing careers in youth program leadership, human resources, operations, marketing, or finance, the office team offers the chance to sharpen professional skills and see the real-world impact of your work on kids, families, and communities across New York City.

Interns

Our internship program is a true career readiness experience. Interns learn how to complete essential tasks in operations, people & culture, marketing, finance, and program management. Each placement is aligned with academic studies and career goals, so interns gain practical skills that matter in their field.

In addition to daily work, interns participate in workshops, volunteer in programs, and take part in job-shadowing experiences that strengthen soft skills and prepare them for their careers. We look for interns who are eager to learn, willing to be challenged, and ready to contribute at a high level. We offer fall, spring, and summer internships, each lasting 12–16 weeks.

After School Team

Our after school team creates safe, fun, and enriching spaces where kids explore new interests and connect with mentors. Staff lead activities like homework help, sports and games, arts and crafts, and STEM activities. They provide consistent care, build strong relationships, and help students end the school day on a positive note. After school coaches develop leadership, communication, and behavior management skills. The role is an excellent step for careers in education, social work, youth counseling, and program management.

Recess Coaches

Recess Coaches are the heartbeat of the school day. They partner with school staff to run organized recess programs during school hours where kids learn new games, stay active, and build social skills. Coaches keep playgrounds safe, structured, and inclusive for all students.

This role builds skills in lesson planning, conflict resolution, and group management. Many recess coaches go on to become teachers, athletic directors, school support staff, and PE and sports coaches.

PE Coaches

PE Coaching is an advanced coaching role at Kids in the Game. PE Coaches independently lead full physical education classes for partner schools 3-5 days per week during traditional school hours. They design and adapt curricula, teach a wide range of fitness and movement skills, and create inclusive lessons where every child is supported and challenged. They also assess student performance, track progress, and complete report cards. This experience prepares staff for careers as PE teachers, athletic directors, and sports educators. By managing curriculum and assessments, PE Coaches gain the real-world teaching and leadership skills needed to step into advanced roles in athletics and education.

Summer Camp Teams

Our summer camps are powered by teams of 10–20+ staff members who work together for 6–8 weeks to run engaging camp programs. Each camp has counselors who lead groups, specialists who bring expertise in sports, arts, and STEM, and directors and assistant directors who oversee daily operations, staff leadership, and parent communication.

Camp staff collaborate to create safe, high-energy environments filled with trips, special events, and themed days. The experience builds teamwork, leadership, and adaptability—skills that serve staff well beyond the summer. Alumni have gone on to careers in youth development, education, healthcare, business, project management, and finance.
