Kids in the Game Announces New Summer Camp Location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
Kids in the Game is excited to officially announce our seventh summer camp location is opening in 2021! We are expanding our reach in Brooklyn from one to two locations with the addition of a Greenpoint / North Williamsburg location at our host site the Ardor School. This camp joins six other summer camp locations spanning from Riverdale in the Bronx throughout all of Manhattan and into Brooklyn. (Riverdale, Inwood, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, East Village, Park Slope)
Our summer camp activities include swimming, creative and performing arts, outdoor adventure, and of course team sports and games, all in the same day! We also have creative theme weeks and exciting field trips that you won’t want to miss, like a trip to Governor’s Island or a Mets game! Through these summer camp games, campers gain new experiences, develop friendships outside of their school communities, and learn from kid-approved, adult mentors who make each day more adventurous than the last. We can’t wait to join the Greenpoint community for the best summer ever!
“We are thrilled to announce our newest summer camp location in the Greenpoint, North Williamsburg neighborhood. This is our seventh camp location, and we can’t wait to get to know the families and community in this neighborhood. We love that the camp, hosted at Ardor School, is just steps from open park space at McCarren Park, tennis courts, and a pool. Our team is excited to provide a safe, fun, exciting experience — out of the apartment and off screens.”
Matt Murphy, CEO
Our Greenpoint camp location will run for six weeks, kicking off on July 5th and running through August 13th. This location will be available for kids entering Pre-K4 through 5th grade!
At Kids in the Game, we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality day camps in New York City at an affordable rate. Our Greenpoint camp is $490 per week, and that includes early drop off at 8:00am. The camp day runs until 3:00pm for Kindergarten through 5th graders, and our Pre-K kids end their day a bit earlier at 2:30pm. After-care is available for all campers from 3:00-5:00pm for an additional $20 per day. We also offer a 10% sibling discount to make sure the whole family is on in on the fun.
This summer more than ever, safety is top of mind. In 2020 we successfully ran four of our camps for over 400 campers, and we had 0 COVID cases. More importantly, we created a space for kids to be kids again. We wore our masks, shifted our programming, and tapped into our creativity. And this summer, we can’t wait to do it again, making memories that will last a lifetime at our new Greenpoint camp!

Scavenger Hunts, Sports and Social Distancing: A Summer Camp Activities Guide
How do you keep kids entertained and active while maintaining social distance you ask? Our experienced curriculum team came up with a long list of fun, exciting, challenging ideas for summer camp activities while social distancing that everyone loves. You can thank us later.
From sports games to crafts, themed days, STEM projects, and more, here is a list of 7 programming activities that allow social distancing and a ton of fun.
- Play human foosball with offensive and defensive player zones. Use floor tape or cones to designate zones, limiting equipment sharing and physical contact between campers.
- Kick instead of throw. Modify sports games like kickball or dodgeball that require balls to be thrown to be kicked instead. This limits hands touching equipment.
- Teach specific sport skills and create individual challenges for campers to practice performing, just like the NBA Skills Challenge! Pick your sport, teach and demonstrate a few different skills, then put them all together in one motion before the big challenge. This limits contact, equipment sharing and encourages skill building.
- Themed days at camp are the perfect opportunity to build team spirit, promote inclusivity and foster friendships that will outlast camp. Wacky hats, silly socks, team jerseys and superheroes are a great place to start.
- We call it ‘Camps Got Talent.’ Host your own talent show! This gets the camper’s creativity flowing and allows them to work together to achieve a goal. Start with group creation, practice, stage and prop build, then showtime!
- Let’s have a Building Bonanza. Working in their group cohort, campers will use various materials to create and build their own projects from scratch. Throughout the week groups can create blueprints and collect materials to use for their project. This fosters creativity, resourcefulness, teamwork and completion!
- Be Free and Do Like Me. This twist on a classic dance party and Simon Says is the perfect way to get everyone engaged and moving. Campers will spread out in their own space then imitate the different movements your coach does. Put on some music to grab everyone’s attention – we recommend this playlist.
As we close out the summer and transition back to school, we want to recognize the incredible memories we’ve made and positive experiences we’ve had by reuniting through summer camp. To our 2020 camp families, thank you for trusting us. We’ve had a blast.
“We are so happy that we decided to brave the COVID summer of 2020 and send our three children to Kids in the Game camp. The staff is vigilant about keeping the children and counselors properly socially distanced and masked. Despite these atypical camp procedures, they are still incredibly successful and motivated at engaging the children in all the different camp activities… Kids in the Game has saved summer for our family.”

KING continues growth and acquires Fit 4 Life NYC
Kids the Game often uses the tagline #GrowingUpKing when talking about how we want to positively affect the way kids are growing up in New York City, but the tagline also applies to how we want to grow as an organization. We are dedicated to challenging ourselves, embracing diverse backgrounds and experiences, and always striving for personal and professional growth.
As of today, Kids in the Game (KING) is excited to announce that we have recently acquired and will join forces with Fit 4 Life NYC, a youth organization focused on sports, creative movement, and physical education programs for charter schools in underserved communities. Together, the organizations serve over 20,000 NYC youth annually across 50+ schools.
Along with growing our network of schools, Fit 4 Life NYC will add over 40 talented and dedicated coaches to our current staff. The combined organization will now employ over 125 youth development instructors working in NYC schools on a daily basis across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx. Among those 40+ coaches, Maurelhena Walles will be coming on board to our Sr. team as Sr. Vice President of Program and Initiatives. Maurelhena brings both a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to Kids in the Game and we are thrilled to be working together to bring the very best programming to all kids growing up in New York City.
“By joining forces with KING, the possibilities and opportunities are limitless, said Maurelhena Walles, Execute Director of Fit 4 Life NYC. “Through our programs, services and genuine love for the work we do, day in and out, I am confident we will have a greater impact on the youth, families and communities we serve. Together, we can keep kids in the game while making NYC fit for life. We’re looking forward to this next chapter and building a tremendous organization.”
“Our acquisition of Fit 4 Life NYC allows us to further our mission to make a real, measurable impact on the health and future of NYC youth,” said Matt Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Kids in the Game. “We found through our discovery process that our teams had a tremendous amount in common, and the acquisition will make it possible for us to reach new neighborhoods, expand our programming, and deepen our leadership team. We look forward to working with Maurelhena and her team to give all New York City kids the opportunity to be active, healthy, and have access to positive coaches. ”

KING Summer Camp: 5 reasons kids (and parents) love us!
The streets may be lined with holiday cheer and snow is falling outside our windows but that isn’t stopping our team from dreaming about summer camp. Today is the big day and registration is officially open for Summer 2018. Last year’s camp season was one for the books with stories we are still reliving. We know that 2018 will be even better as we welcome new and past campers.
To celebrate registration opening and to take all of your minds off the cold we wanted to share just 5 of the many reasons why you and your kids will love our summer camps.
1. There is something for everyone. Whether your child is all about sports, art or STEM, we have inclusive activities for all of them. KING Summer Camp prides itself on providing a well-rounded experience that not only caters to kids’ current likes but also expands their minds to new activities. It would take all day to name every activity that our campers participate in but to name a few:
Sports: Basketball, tennis, wiffle ball, flag football, soccer, and dozens of other unique KING games that will be the talk of the dinner table each night.
Arts and Crafts: We offer age specific projects ranging from tye-dye to bracelet making and beyond.
STEM: campers have the opportunity to learn computer coding, test their chemistry skills making play dough and slime and use their creativity in project design.
2. The opportunity to explore New York City! Each week our campers have the opportunity to go on unique field trips all over New York City. Last year our campers cheered on the Mets and the Yankees, rode the rides at Coney Island and put their scientist hats on at the Hall of Science. This year we will be bringing back field trip favorites and adding new and exciting trips for our campers to enjoy.
3. Our staff rocks! Every time someone asks us what makes our camp different we always say it is our awesome staff! We are unique to other camps because we run programs year around and our coaches work with kids throughout the year, not just in the summer. Our staff includes hundreds of wonderful coaches that are certified teachers, former college athletes, full-time KING staff and are all dedicated to making sure that all campers have the best time ever.
4. Parents, this one is for you: we are super affordable! A quick Google search will tell you that we are well below our competitors. We are dedicated to keeping our prices affordable to give all kids the opportunity to experience the joys of summer camp. We are also offering early bird specials to make camp even more affordable. Sign up before March 1st and enjoy $50 off per week! We also offer pay-in-full and sibling discounts.
5. Swimming! A highlight of last summer was the addition of swim lessons. We are bringing them back this year and are very excited to continue to promote and teach safe swimming. Campers last year not only improved their swimming ability but also had a ton of fun doing so. Lessons are taught in a group setting by professional instructors and are catered to the groups’ existing ability. Lessons are an additional $50 per week.
To be honest, choosing only 5 reasons was tough because there are so many reasons to love KING Summer Camp! Find out more by visiting our website or shooting an email to info@kidsinthegame.com See you this summer!
